We have put a map of the Shrine after the text.
Dear Pilgrim, if you are beginning your visit to the Łagiewniki Shrine here, we would like to give you a very warm welcome and invite you to discover the treasure which God deposited in this place after the death of Sister Faustina Kowalska. If this place is the last port of call on your pilgrimage, take the message of Mercy to strengthen you and bring you happiness in your everyday life, so that you may share it with others whom you will meet in your life.
If travelling or visiting the Shrine at Łagiewniki has wearied you, you can rest in Sister Faustina’s House and its restaurant, which is run by the Sisters of the Congregation of Our Lady of Mercy for our pilgrims. We serve meals which follow our Community’s recipes. It might be good to recall that Sister Faustina spent her first years of residence in the Congregation’s house in Kraków working in the kitchen, where she cooked for the Sisters and the girls in their care. At first, she had a big problem with draining the potatoes, which were cooked in very big pots. She complained to Jesus that she didn’t have the strength for the job, and He promised her that from that day on she would have no difficulty at all with it. He would reinforce her strength. Trusting to the words of the Lord, in the evening when it was time to drain the potatoes, she had no trouble with lifting up the cooking-pot and draining all the water off. When she removed the lid to let the steam off, she saw that the pot was full of the most beautiful red roses that she had ever seen. And then she heard these words from Jesus, “I am turning your hard work into bouquets of the most beautiful flowers, and their fragrance is rising up to My throne” (Diary 65).
It would be hard to say all there is to say about St. Faustina’s life, mission, and school of spirituality in the time it takes to go round all the places in the Shrine of Łagiewniki, not to mention the work of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy and the chaplains who dispense pastoral care here, and on the experience of thousands of people who have encountered the living God here, drawn on His mercy and benefitted from the powerful patronage of St. Faustina. That is why we recommend a virtual visit to our website, faustyna.pl , which provides a service in several languages, and all the books and other media services offered by our Congregation to share “God’s gift for our times, Poland’s gift for the whole Church,” as Pope John Paul II said of Sister Faustina. In the row of shops next to the Basilica you will find the Misericordia bookshop, where you can buy Sister Faustina’s Diary in a number of language versions, as well as painted copies and reproductions of the Holy Picture of the Merciful Jesus. Join us in the mission to spread the message of Mercy throughout the world, with Faustinum or in any other way, supporting the works conducted by this Shrine and sponsoring its development.
