On 28-29 of November, in Warsaw’s Natolin (ul. Nowoursynowska 84) a scientific conference entitled “Solidarity and Mercy” will be held. It is organized by the “Teologia Polityczna” magazine, together with the National Centre for Culture, the Foundation Natolin European Centre, the Centre for French Culture and Francophone Studies at the Warsaw University and the War Studies University. Compassion and solidarity are, writes Dariusz Karłowicz, the originator and also editor-in-chief of “Teologia Polityczna”, the two most important ideas that appeared in Poland in the twentieth century. Ideas whose impact might boldly might be called global. The first of these is, in the contemporary consciousness, inseparable from the person and work of St. Faustina Kowalska, the other – with the great movement against communism and totalitarianism, which the Polish “Solidarity” was. During the conference, we want to look at these two ideas, which are perhaps the most important Polish response to the catastrophes of the twentieth century. The conference will be attended by eminent philosophers, theologians and historians from Poland, France and Italy. The patron of this meeting and reflection will be the great Polish mystic, St. Faustina Kowalska – and her Diary. The conference will be open by Kazimierz Cardinal Nycz, Metropolitan of Warsaw.
