We have put a map of the Shrine after the text.
The Chapel of St. Andrew the Apostle is to the right, next to the Communio Sanctorum Chapel, and it is the gift of the Greek Catholic (Uniate) Church of Poland and Ukraine. Its iconostasis presents an icon of St. Andrew, Patron Saint of the Eastern Church, and was made by the Ukrainian artist Lubomir Medvid. The Chapel has a rich decoration of wall paintings in the Eastern tradition and depicting the history of the Church. The paintings by Timur Karim and Małgorzata Dawidiuk show the Synaxis of the Theotokos (the Gathering in Honour of the Mother of God, celebrated in the Eastern Church on the second day of Christmas), the Baptism of Rus’ (Ukraine), the Acheiropoietos Christ (the Image of Christ Not Made by Human Hand, also known as the Mandylion or the Image of Edessa), and the Elevation of the True Cross. The Chapel was consecrated in 2007 by Archbishop Jan Martyniak, Unoate Metropolitan of Przemyśl and Warsaw, and Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, Metropolitan of Kraków.
Jesus said to Sister Faustina, “Under the Old Covenant, I sent prophets to My people with thunderbolts. Today I am sending you with My mercy to the whole of mankind. I do not want to punish anguished humankind, I want to heal it, pressing it close to My merciful Heart” (Diary 1588). St. Faustina’s prophetic mission is addressed to the whole of mankind and it is to prepare the world for the Second Coming of Christ. That is why Pope John Paul II said in this Basilica, “May this message [of Mercy, as recorded in Sister Faustina’s Diary] be disseminated from this place throughout our Beloved Country and all over the world. May Jesus’ solemn promise that ‘the spark that will prepare the world for His final coming’ will come from here (See Diary 1732). We must kindle the spark of God’s grace. We must pass on the fire of mercy to the world. The world will find peace, and Man his happiness in Divine mercy.”
